Tailiya Beckles US History P1 THE MAIN CAUSE OF THE CIVIL WAR The Civil War lasted four long years in the United States. There are two points of view on the topic slavery being a key factor in causing the war or were there alternative reasons. There were economic reasons for the Northern and Southern states not agreeing on seceding from the United States. Slavery could be considered a religious, economic, social and political issue. In my opinion, there were many factors leading up to the Civil War, however in my opinion, the biggest argument was that slavery was the major reason for the CIvil War. Every aspect of the political and social environment that preceded the Civil War was a direct result of slavery. My position is that slavery played a major role in the Civil War.
